The fires in California have touched so many lives across this country. Many businesses that started decades ago were leveled in a matter of hours by the fast-moving blaze. Homes along with all their contents and memories were gone in a matter of seconds.
The National Costumers Association is not just a professional organization but a family. As Immediate Past President, I felt the need to reach out to our members in these devastated areas, on behalf of the Board of Directors.
I am pleased to report that out of the four costume shops I contacted, two of them are fine and doing business as usual.
Beth at "A Chorus Line Dancewear and Costumes" in Valencia CA, reported that the fire in their area was contained and about 12 miles away. They were doing fine, however one of their employees lost their home and another had to evacuate.
Axel at "Etoile Costume and Party Center" in Tarzana CA, said he could see the fire and smoke, but it did not come close. They did not have to evacuate.
"Fantasy Frocks Costumes" in Bakersfield CA and "Teddybear Toys" in Laguna Hills, CA could not be reached. I left several messages but no return calls. Prayers for safety for both of them
The shops I spoke to were surprised and grateful to hear from the National Costumers Association. Family takes care of family, and that's what the NCA is about.
If anyone has any information on the two shops that could not be reached, please contact Ed Avis at the office (708-218-7755), Terry Sinopoli President at (585-482-8786), or myself at docmarkel@aol.com.
