The NCA extends its deepest condolences to our friends at Costume Culture by Franco on the passing of Dean Powell, who was the photographer for Costume Culture by Franco, prior to that Franco American Novelty Company, starting in 1984 until his illness in 2024. He was a man who enjoyed creative talents and yet had the humility to make everyone feel comfortable in his midst.
Dean opened Dean Powell Photography Inc. in New York City in 1983 and worked for clients including Estée Lauder, REVLON, Mac Cosmetics, Family Circle, Fitness, Outdoor Life and Sesame Street Magazines. Following his commercial photography career, Dean went on to shoot for the Fadeyev Ballet Company, corporate parties and private events.
He is survived by his wife Michele Oumano Powell (owner of Costume Culture by Franco), his daughters Chelsea, Taylor and son-in-law Max; his brothers Richard, Kenneth, and David; and sister-in-law Cynthia Jo.
