As this year wraps up, it's fun to look at the most popular articles on costumers.org over the past year, based on Google Analytics. They ranged from business how-to articles to company profiles. Enjoy!
1. Día de los Muertos: Respect the Culture When Celebrating Day of the Dead: Dressing up and decorating for Day of the Dead – or Día de los Muertos – is becoming increasingly popular throughout the United States. Some revelers dress in Day of the Dead costumes at Halloween; others wait to celebrate until the “official” timeframe: October 31, November 1 and November 2.
2. Peering Ahead to Halloween: Predictions About 2022 Costume Trends: The June 12 weekend box office results from Rotten Tomatoes were no big surprise: Jurassic World Dominion came in with a $143 million debut, while Top Gun continued to soar. With two blockbuster movies vying for the top spot just four months before Halloween (and less than that before costume shopping begins), predictions from costumers who responded to the NCA’s Halloween 2022 survey weren’t surprising.
3. NCA Exclusives Program Launched: Are you looking for a way to beat the competition from “big box” stores, Halloween pop-ups, and low-price internet sellers? The NCA has a solution: Our new Exclusives program, which has launched with three exclusive masks from Zagone Studios.
4. Halco Sold to Morris: Halco, a long-time NCA Vendor Member and leading supplier of Santa Claus costumes and related merchandise, has been sold to Morris Costumes. Morris is owned by Oriental Trading Co.
5. Morris Distributing Jazwares: NCA Vendor Member Morris Costumes is now the exclusive distributor for Jazwares, the costume company that recently acquired the rights to the Marvel Comics licensed costumes.
6. Halloween Sales 2022: Mixed Report, But Not Bad: Well, you can all take a deep breath now. Halloween is over! Based on an NCA survey of retailers and suppliers, it looks like it was a decent – though not record-breaking – Halloween.
7. New Era for Graftobian: Consolidated Ownership, New Warehouse: NCA Vendor Member Graftobian has had a big year. Eric Coffman, the company’s president, bought out his partner, John Mazur, last June, and the company has moved the make-up manufacturing operations from New York to a new facility in Madison, Wisconsin.
8. Seen a Movie Lately? You Probably Have Seen the Work of New NCA Member Eastern Costume: When it comes to military uniforms in quality movies or TV shows, there’s no such thing as “kind of” right. Uniforms are either right or wrong. That understanding has driven the success of new NCA member Eastern Costume.
9. Plus Sizes Power Sales at Starline & Party King: Everyone wants to look good in their Halloween costume, even if they don’t have a wispy figure. That fact is why NCA Vendor Member Starline is so successful in plus-size costumes.
10. The Hairy Truth: Mustaches and Beards Can Add to Your Bottom Line: What do kings, Santas, hippies and cowboys all have in common? They’re all known for facial hair. Beards and mustaches are essential components of countless costumes, which means they could potentially add to your bottom line.
