While still open for business, Broadway Costumes, Inc. in Chicago is for sale. We are not closing, we are just up for sale. Originally established in 1886 as the Fritz Schultz Costume company, we are one of the first costume businesses in the country. In 1969, new ownership changed the name to Broadway Costumes, Inc. The rental inventory of approximately 215,000 hangers is housed on approximately 6,275 running feet of hanging pipe in approximately 28,000 square feet of a high ceiling warehouse. There are over 1,700 bins and boxes of accessories as well as too many to count boxed hats. Plus over 2,000 full to partial bolts of fabric. And 21 assorted industrial sewing machines. Over one-third of the inventory is dedicated to show collections, while the balance of the inventory includes historic, ethnic, uniform and novelty costumes as well as a small distressed section. Approximately 95 percent of the client base is on-state theater work, mainly educational accounts, but includes some professional, community and summer theatre. The balance includes masquerade, corporate, commercial, video, film and television. The owner would like to see the collection kept together. The current lease expires June 30, 2022; building management is open to discuss an extension. This is a great opportunity to increase your inventory or open a Chicago branch. Asset sale price is negotiable, owner would like to see a new owner take over and reap the benefits of the upcoming spring show season. The current owner has been with the company 48 years and wants to retire. For more information, email schramm@broadwaycostumes.com.
