In 1968 Virginia Gersney was elected curator of a nonexistent NCA museum (click here to read about this effort). She began gathering items from costumers around the United States for this future museum. Needless to say, this preservation dream never took off and a museum was never established. Mrs Gersney did acquire a few interesting items which were stored at Krause Costumes. Through time we have lost track of what became of these historical items and Virginia’s dream.
As we approach the 100th anniversary of the National Costumer’s Association, I am gathering any items you might want to share and display to the membership at our celebration in Indianapolis on August 4-6, 2023. I would love to collect letters of your NCA memories. So many of you have countless stories of your time spent at conventions and gatherings. I know a lot of you have specific stories about Spring Fling and the “left right center “game, which at some point spilled over into the hallways at various hotels???, memories of the Porpoise club and its antics, and so on. So many of the members brought their children to the conventions, which I’m sure the children, now adults have great stories to share.
So, please dig deep, take the time to jot down a few stories and email them to me docmarkel@aol.com.
See you in Indianapolis, Indiana on August 4-6, 2023
