The NCA 1,000 Mask Challenge has already generated 170 finished masks and commitments for 300 more, meaning we are 470 masks towards are 1,000 mask goal! Here are answers to some common questions about the program:
How do I learn about the program? You can find details by clicking here.
Why is NCA sponsoring this challenge? Many costumers are excellent sewers and have the materials and time to make masks. There is a worldwide shortage of masks, so we are filling an urgent need.
I heard some hospitals aren't accepting homemade masks, so why are we making them? Yes, it is true that some hospitals are not welcoming homemade masks at this time. However, in each case that a participant has asked the NCA to find someone to accept the masks, we have been able to quickly identify healthcare facilities in their community that are accepting them. The masks we are making are not the type healthcare workers working directly with COVID-19 sufferers can use, of course, but our masks can be used for less intense applications and as last-resort back-up masks.
Who has committed to making masks so far? Ashley Ward of Eastern Costume Company in Salisbury, NC has already completed 150 masks and donated them to Randolph Hospital and Lisa Bobatas made 20 masks and donated them to Bayview Physicians in Virginia Beach, VA. Kelly Clark of Starline Costume in Mineral Wells, TX has committed to making 150 masks, and Pam Markel of Illusive Skull Costume Castle in Fairmont, WV also has committed to making 150 masks. What will NCA do when the goal is reached? First -- and even before we reach the goal -- we'll honor those costumers who are making masks by publicizing the fact in their community media. Second, we won't stop! We'll keep setting new goals and making more masks as long as the need persists. Please join the effort by clicking here!
